Show up early »

bobulate:

Jeffrey Zeldman on showing up early:

If you plan to arrive early, then you are covered when circumstances beyond your control conspire to make you late. …. This is simple and obvious but many otherwise brilliant professionals clearly don’t think about it. The result is that they often arrive late. It’s never their fault, and yet it’s always the same people who are late.

And:

Love means never having to say you’re sorry, but client services means apologizing every five minutes. Give yourself one less thing to be sorry for. Take some free advice. Show up often, and show up early.

If I had to point to the one thing that made our project successful, it was not the idea behind it, our internet fame, the tools we chose, or the funding we had (precious little, for the record). It was our team.

Guatemala Casi Cielo® Coffee »

Today coffee (2010-01-11 11:02:41)

This medium body coffee got a tiny hint of citrusy and berry flavour on it. The thick aroma is not reflected in the medium body of this coffee. Overall a great coffee for the afternoon.

Accenture Dropping Tiger Woods

rentzsch:

I’m sorry to hear Accenture has terminated Woods’ contract.

I always thought Accenture’s use of Tiger Woods as a spokesperson was spot-on. Their ads spoke nothing about progress, invention, discovery or humanity.

It was pure shallow celebrity-worship targeted at those who manage what they don’t understand.

It was beautiful: an ongoing national multimillion dollar advertising campaign confirming my darkest suspicions about their corporation.

Infographic Design for magazine spread (via oh shannonnnn)

The numbers used for this are from:

An anti-smoking organisation
2006

Just saying.

Also, I still don’t understand how representing quantity with scaled down little icons of guns and cigarettes (that aren’t even consistently-sized!) is especially helpful, and I love how the little cigarettes are spaced much further apart, artificially increasing their perceived size and shock value.

And Heather informs me that statistics like this are usually collected from cohort studies which are not especially reliable.

Further commentary here.

Leadership is scarce because few people are willing to go through the discomfort required to lead.

It’s uncomfortable to stand up in front of strangers. It’s uncomfortable to propose an idea that might fail. It’s uncomfortable to challenge the status quo. It’s uncomfortable to resist the urge to settle.

Thanks for leading

Matano Lake, Southern Sulawesi

Taken a few years back, it’s a beautiful lake although there is a mining company nearby the lake still maintain its natural beauty. There is a fisherman village near the lake where I take this shot.
